5 Things you need to know between Ceramic Tiles and a Porcelain Tiles
Composition
Ceramic tiles are made from a mixture of clay and other natural materials that we’re fired at high temperatures. The resulting tile is dense and durable, with a glazed or unglazed surface that can be smooth or textured.
Porcelain tiles, on the other hand, are made from a type of clay called kaolin, as well as feldspar and other minerals. The mixture is fired at higher temperatures than ceramic tiles, which makes porcelain tiles denser, harder, and more durable than their ceramic counterparts.
Durability
Porcelain tiles are fired at higher temperatures, it is a lot denser and harder than ceramic tiles, making them more durable and resistant to wear and tear. They are also less porous than ceramic tiles, which are less likely to absorb moisture and stains.
This makes porcelain tiles a great choice for high-traffic areas like hallways, entryways, and kitchens and outdoor installations like patios and pool decks.
Cost
Porcelain tiles are generally more expensive than ceramic tiles due to their higher quality and durability. However, the cost difference can vary depending on the type of tile and the manufacturer.
Appearance
Porcelain tiles mimic the look of natural stones like marble and granite more convincingly than ceramic tiles, which makes them a better choice if you’re looking for a high-end look.
Maintenance
Both ceramic and porcelain tiles are relatively easy to maintain, but porcelain tiles are generally easier to clean due to their low porosity. They are also less likely to stain or absorb odors. Both types of tiles can be cleaned with a damp mop or cloth and mild detergent.
Choosing between ceramic and porcelain tiles ultimately comes down to your specific needs and preferences. If you’re looking for a durable, low-maintenance option for high-traffic areas, porcelain tiles may be the best choice.
However, if you’re working with a tight budget or prefer a specific style or pattern, ceramic tiles may be the better option. Whatever your choice, make sure to work with a reputable tile supplier and installer to ensure that your new tiles look great and last for years to come
