In this Project, The Client approached me as their designer to help them in the dilemma – Space Planning and a Concept Board. they wanted a cozy space and maximize the space of the Living Area that has an odd structural features that is a challenge for them. The wanted a Mid-Century Design for the 400 sqft Living Area and thus must work around the existing feature such as the Walls, and Structure of the House.

How are they?

They are Empty Nesters – A Couple who are planning to update the existing look of their vacation home. This will become their primary home in the future. They wanted to feel rested whenever they visited or had guests come over. At the same time, they have thoughtabout the possibility of having this rented for Short Term Rentals. They don’t want any major renovation work but rather update what they can update without spending a lot and that they can do it by themselves. As they aren’t in a rush to execute the project right away. They wanted to have a Vision that they could look forward.

The Living Area has around 10ft high or about 3000mm which is good and that it has a wall to wall windows on one side leading to another area of the house. As they wanted to go for a Mid-Century Design, the application is much easier. As it has Wooden Floors and Wooden Walls, A Typical Feature of a Cabin House.

In this project, We first worked on the Space Planning and the main priority is to have a a lot of seating area. The Living Area has no electronic features such as TV or any other. Its goal is to be one with nature enjoy the beautiful scenery and be present with the people they are with.

The wooden floors were kept while the Wodoen walls were repainted white (in the range of white-colored paint). Its Sofa is Beige Matched with a Carpet in Beige Color as well adding texture to its surrounding floor. While the Accent Chairs are in Suede Emerald Green and so are it accent wall painting and throw pillows. While the Wooden Furniture is in Dark Oak, a shade darker than its existing flooring that matches the all seating fabrics.

The Reading Corner has a Camel Leatherette Fabric and a Lamp made of Linen Fabric that is close to the Texture of the Sofa while the other Corner near its window has a Console Dresser to keep some family memorabilia and decors to keep the home welcoming as they pass in this empty corner.

Designer Insight

The client has a vision of the space they wanted which is Mid Century. They knew that they have a beautiful space and that times had changes and thus the look of their home needed to have a revamp.

With the New Layout for Space Planning and a Concept Board using a Product Mood board (just the look of how an actual product would be) as their guide. They can visualize the space and all they have to do is present the Moodboard to any salesperson and their contractor to help them implement each item from changing the paint color to selecting the furniture.

The element that stands out in this space is its existing structural feature, the floors, the walls, and the stone walls that needed to have a refresh from cleaning to repainting. No changes were made in this home to keep its beautiful memories. and that each selection was carefully thought to keep their home as it was.

If there is a big takeaway in this project, you can always invest in hiring an interior designer. You have to be clear about what support you need from them. You don’t have to hire them for Full Interior Design if that is not the direction. If you are like Nick, You need help in a particular area and you need to help with a vision board, or mood board on your current home. Then this E-Design Service is for you.
